Our Mission & Objectives

​Mission
​The Southwest PA RN Club exists exclusively for charitable, educational, and social purposes as a not-for-profit association and provides scholarship opportunities to individuals pursuing education within the field of Nursing. 
  
Purpose
The SWPA RN CLUB is an organization designed to support Nursing and those who are pursuing a career in Nursing. The specific objectives and purpose of this organization shall be: 
  
  1. To sponsor and host regular meetings, educational programs, and networking events to encourage interest and support of nurse professionals in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania  
  2. Provide publicly available scholarships for students actively pursuing a career in Nursing by active enrollment in a nursing program of study.
  3. Provide donations to charitable organizations with missions relating to the health and welfare of the community​
     
           The SWPA RN club has provided scholarships to 142 students in the past 54 years as of 2026. The total amount given is over $285,280.  We have additionally supported the Mary Agnes Powers scholarship which has been given to 44 recipients to date. Please see the scholarship tab for information regarding applying for scholarships.

Our recipients for 2026 are:
     Jacqueline Shorthouse , Carlow University will receive the
Mary Agnes Powers Memorial award plus the SWPARN club award

     Gabriella Morgan, University of Pittsburgh will receive the
Elaine Farney Memorial scholarship club award

​At the memorial service of a club member, a white rose is laid with the deceased member and the Florence Nightingale Tribute is read. In remembrance of their loved one's work as a nurse, a copy of the Florence Nightingale Tribute is given to the family. ​

About our members:
Our 170+ members are registered nurses who live, work at, or are retired from, hospitals in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Many have work throughout the United States.

​Membership dues are $25 per year. Honorary members are free. Honorary members are members who are 90 years of age and older, or have been a member for 35 years or more.

The Nightingale Pledge
